I was bewildered after recently speaking with a few IT leaders who thought Google Glass was merely a gimmick. I can think of 100s of ways for businesses to greatly improve their quality, productivity and agility with these glasses.
I recently did some work for a major global utility where I helped brainstorm how these devices could be used in the future when linked to GPS on a mobile device. The company would be able to triangualte the engineers location, super impose mapping coordinates on his heads up display so that he could virtually look under ground to find cables, pipes, meters, joints etc., saving countless hours, consumer confidence and considerable maintenance costs. The engineer would be able to “view” the schematics for any piece of equipment they were working on real time, take pictures of the failed device and send those photos with messages to other engineers seeking guidance which in turn reduces future call outs.
I find this incredibly exciting, all of the possibilities at your fingertips….
Do you feel the same? Gimmick or Revolution?
